I am obliged for your letter of to-day, and have

arranged with Mr. Upjohn to consider himself retained until

we get the papers in the appeal giving us the title, when

I will give him a formal retainer.

In the meantime, Mr. Upjohn will not accept

any retainer for an appeal from Hong Kong to the Privy

Council without first consulting me.
